One of the priorities of the Amykles Research Project is the scientific field of Public Archaeology, which is oriented at the integration of the local community into the archaeological setting. In this context, and in collaboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Laconia, museum-education activities on archaeology, art and the excavation process were carried out in 2020, focuses also on the relationship between the archaeological site and the natural environment. The activities were directed at children 8-12 years old and aimed to bring them closer to the history of the ancient sanctuary and to archaeologists' work. At the end of the program, children experienced the excavation procedure in situ and completed their own simulated notebook. Furthermore, an activity based on the local mosaics of the Hellenistic and Roman periods, was carried out at the Archaeological Museum of Sparta, encouraging the participants to create works inspired from the mosaic art. On the occasion of issues concerning the catastrophe of the natural environment, children participated in one more action at the archaeological site, concentrated on the communication of ideas, such as the respect for the nature and the environment, the preservation of clean - without discards - public spaces, the importance of the proper disposal of waste in dumps and the ways of reducing waste production and recycling.
